Heather Shaw, Founder

Heather Shaw is a wellness expert and the founder of Exquisite House Pilates & Wellness, a boutique studio devoted to personalized, longevity-driven care. After a 30-year consulting career, Heather shifted her focus to functional health, using both lived experience and evidence-based practices to help others restore vitality, resilience, and confidence in their bodies.

Following her own journey with chronic health issues, Heather earned her Functional Nutrition Coach Certification and developed The Plan — a customizable framework designed to support whole-body healing through nutrition, movement, and sustainable habit change. Her approach blends science, empathy, and deep listening to help clients cut through the noise and create wellness that lasts.

While trained in Pilates, Barre, TRX, and Brrrn, Heather views movement as just one piece of a much bigger picture. Her true passion lies in guiding people toward strength, hormonal balance, and long-term wellbeing with tailored strategies that meet them where they are.

When she's not teaching in the studio you can find Heather on our podcast: Hey Heather, What About...The Exquisite House Pilates & Wellness Podcast where she shares about all things aging, hormones, movement and more. Especially the stuff no one warned us about! You can find our podcast on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/show/7gyp57jdWYsLvRhNiIonpT?si=59a831efd6344ab5

A California native now based in Virginia, Heather shares her life with her husband, and her spirited dachshunds, Fric and Frac. She brings warmth, sparkle, and a sense of play to everything she does — whether she’s coaching a client through a gut reset or curating a wellness event that lights people up from the inside out.

Her mission:

“To help people feel successful, strong, and truly well in their bodies — for life.”

Alyssa Simpson, Mat Instructor & Communications Assistant

With a background as a professional dancer in Philadelphia and New York, Alyssa has always placed movement at the center of her life. She was a member of the Diamond Gem Dance Team at Temple University and performed professionally until a hypermobility-related injury reshaped her career and deepened her understanding of the body.

Alyssa began teaching group fitness in Philadelphia in 2008 at 12th Street Gym and City Fitness, where she developed a thoughtful, anatomy-driven approach to movement. After experiencing multiple injuries firsthand, she specialized in modifications and rehabilitation, helping clients build strength safely and confidently.

Her teaching blends classical and contemporary Pilates with a focus on alignment, mobility, and long-term joint health. Alyssa believes Pilates should meet clients where they are — whether returning from injury, navigating midlife changes, or simply looking to move better and feel stronger.

She is also certified in Integrative Nutrition through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, bringing a whole-body approach to wellness that supports both movement and recovery. In 2025, Alyssa returned to teaching Mat Pilates in Richmond, Virginia, with a deep respect for the resilience of the human body.
